Fingersmith

A few years ago the lovely Sheila McCarthy gave me Sarah Waters’ Fingersmith. A thoroughly enjoyable read, I made short work of it. When I finished my cuffs-slash-warmers, I pondered several names but then Sarah Waters’ Sue Trinder popped into my mind and I remembered the legions of petty thieves and pick-pockets, the fingersmiths, who peopled the novel. It seemed like the perfect fit, for in the novel, sometimes people are not as they seem.

Sometimes, I change my mind partway through knitting an item.

Sometimes, I forget where I was going with an idea, or I give over to a differing one.

Sometimes, I just forget to stop knitting.

Sitting down to knit the second glove of my Much Kadooment pattern, I became distracted, as I often do, and stuff happened. Stuff led to more stuff and then I ended up with what you see here.

In knitting, sometimes knuckle grazing cuffs...

Much Kadooment

become fingerless warmers...

Fingersmith

And sometimes, what you end up with is better than what you had planned on.

Working out a few things, but Fingersmith is turning out to be something other than what I had initially planned, and I'm okay with that.

I have to tinker with these in a lighter weight yarn, alter a thing or two but...pattern soon.

Hopefully.
