Updating My Space

I am one of those people who would rather use cardboard boxes as an end table than buy something I am not 100% about. It took me 10 years to buy my chesterfield. That being said, once I find a piece I really like I will hang on to it for as long as possible, finishing and refinishing until I am happy.

A few years back, tired of cardboard box end tables and night stands, I bought self assemble untreated wood pieces. Moving to my new apartment last year gave me an excuse to redo a lot of pieces. I've spent the better part of a year unpacking and decorating (it had been a very busy year for me with very little down time so I got comfortable with having a half finished living space). Finally off I did a major cleaning spree including several runs to Goodwill where I jettisoned a massive collection of books, cds, videos, and bric-a-brac. I followed the Goodwill runs with some painting. Man oh man does it feel good to get back into it. I enjoy my job very much and all but it really does not leave me with a lot of time to do the other things I enjoy.

Anyway, I think I bought this piece at Home Depot 3 or 4 years ago with every intention of giving it a good coat of stain. Even bought the stain. Repeatedly apparently as I found 4 cans of it.

I opted not to stain the piece going for whatever plain old paint I had knocking about.

Haven't found the knobs of my dreams yet, may make some from Fimo

I opted not to paint the entire piece.

A deep green base (Serengeti Plain by CIL), a silvery mauve blue wash (CIL Smart in Big Chill) followed by a powder blue layer (Siesta Key, CIL) over a glue and water crackle medium.

Up Next

Below, the next piece due for updating. Not sure what to do with it yet so I've let it sit. It lives in the solarium so I am concerned with fading. Will post when I work it all out but as I have not yet painted the solarium, other than the window sills, it may be a while before I figure which way to go with it.

Or, I may have to jump ahead to the old pine chest currently living in the back of my closet. It's long overdue for an overhaul.
