On some shows the BG, backgound performers, are called Atmosphere. Whenever I work on a show using this term I find it a little dehumanising. It's a personal thing as I know there is no disrespect intended. I will, however, admit there are times when I see the appropriateness of such a term. The BG really can change the mood or tone for a scene as well as add incredible depth and, well, atmosphere.

Sometimes the most interesting or coolest makeup is on the Atmosphere.

the LA Complex, season 2 (photo: jndc)

Armani lipstick in 401, MAC Pigment in Old Gold, some ridiculously delicious lashes, and rhinestones.

Lots and lots of rhinestones and lash glue.

the Listener, season 3 (photo: jndc)
Dirt, sweat, blood, smoke, and tears (the last were mine because of the smoke).  These guys were great and they definitely added atmosphere.

Can't quite remember which product I used but I am inclined to think it was MAC Full Coverage in Silver and Kryolan liquid makeup in silver. I kept his lips bare until we were ready to roll (I mean, the guy may have wanted to eat or drink something in all those hours before we shot with him). I mixed a lip colour, probably MAC Platinum Pigment.

Will get back to you on those details.
