Better use of my time

Scarborough Bluffs. Relaxing. Mmmm
Every year the frenzy to mark the end of the old year and usher in the new strikes me. Not the party til you puke kind of frenzy but the renew and refresh myself and my home space obsession. The last week of the year, every year, has me wanting to clean out the crap that I have accumulated during the year; the crap I should have thrown out previous years and the projects I had sworn to finish before year end.

Not sure what it is that creates a panic in me but I get swept up without fail every year over and over again. It's puzzling to me as I, for countless years, have used my birthday as the start of my new year and have made the calendar new year a smaller, quieter celebration with friends and family opting to grab some take out, watch old movies and drink a glass or two of wine. I don't really connect the calendar year end with renew. *shrug*

I invariably fail to clean up to my satisfaction clearly as each year end, I find tons of things I should have let go of the year before. Each and every year I think "Now, why did I keep this!?"

Part of the problem is I am the gatherer of Stuff. I like Things. Every time I free up space, I cram in 2 more Things. It's an infinite loop. It's funny how life comes full circle and, before you know it, you are right back to the place you thought you were moving away from.

This year, I am trying something a little different, I am going focus on something which is the culmination of years of subconscious planning and just as many years of conscious procrastination. The plan this year (wait for it!) involves trying to use the things I've acquired instead of just gathering them. Actually using the Things I have gathered and focus on an idea I have rattling around in my busy busy mind. I know, I know...a novel approach. Lol

Here comes 2012...wish me luck.
